Young-Earth Creationism
Young-Earth creationism (YEC) believes in a literal interpretation of the Book of Genesis from the Bible for the origin and diversity of life found on Earth. Generally, these organizations accept that the Earth is less than 10,000 years old and that God created all life-forms in their current "kind." YECs have difficulty in defending their positions because most are directly contrary to the scientific evidence. Several YEC organizations exist, including one in Colorado, the Alpha-Omega Institute in Grand Junction. YEC has been argued before the U. S. Supreme Court three times - and it lost every time.
Several books are available that debunk YEC, including those by Tim Berra and Philip Kitcher.
